Why Join the Knights of Columbus? |
||||
|
|
Imagine being part of an organization that
fills your heart and your mind with the joy of making a difference in
your parish, your community,
and
society. Our members are Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, who
want to make that difference. We attempt to answer the important
question of what legacy a man will build in his lifetime. We are
dedicated to serving the needs of our Church, families, youth,
community, and our members. Guided by our Catholic faith, we engage in a
variety of activities to address the physical and spiritual needs of
people, and to enrich their lives. You can find out about our local
council's activities on our home page and
archives pages for earlier in 2006
and 2005. |

Background of the Knights |
||||
| The Knights of Columbus
began in the basement of St. Mary's Church in New Haven, Connecticut in
1882, when
Father Michael J. McGivney called together a small group of Catholic
laymen to unite them in their faith and help provide for Catholic
families in times of need. The Order quickly grew, and today there are
over 1.7 million members in more than
13,000 local units called councils worldwide. It is now the largest lay
Catholic organization in the world. Last year members worldwide
contributed more than 68 million hours of volunteer time and donated
over $143 million to charitable programs. |
