Local Athlete Advances
in Free Throw Championship - January 29, 2012
Congratulations to Jack Lyons, who won the St. Isaac Jogues Knights of
Columbus Free Throw Championship held at St. Patrick’s School in Malvern
on January 29, 2012. With this win, Jack now advances to the Regional
Competition.
The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually,
with winners progressing through council, district, and ultimately state
competitions. All boys and girls age 10 through 14 years old are
eligible, and compete in their respective age groups. Last year, more
than 223,000 athletes participated in over 3200 local competitions. Good
luck to Jack in the district competition!
Council Hosts Guadalupe
Image - December 18, 2011
As
a participant in the Knights of Columbus Marian Prayer Project, the
council hosted a stop on the national tour of the image of Our Lady of
Guadalupe. The image had been blessed by Pope Benedict XVI and was
touched to the original image of Our Lady of Guadalupe which formed on
St. Juan Diego's tilma (cloak) after one of Our Lady's appearances to
him in Mexico. Council members and parishioners were invited to visit
St. Isaac Jogues Chapel and join in prayer there.
Stockings for
Soldiers Project Completed - November
17, 2011
The
council wrapped up its Stockings for Soldiers project, having
collected the equivalent of about 50 "stockings" worth of items for
troops overseas. The donations were taken to the project's central
processing facility in Delaware, where more than 10,000 stockings are
shipped out, each one tagged with the name of an individual soldier. The
council also gave a cash donation to the project to help with shipping
and other costs. Special thanks goes to Jack Marchiano and Bill Ristey
for heading up this effort.
Council Assists with Special Olympics - November
5, 2011
The
council assisted for the 6th consecutive year with the annual Special
Olympics held at Villanova University. Council members worked in two
shifts serving attendees breakfast and lunch at the south cafeteria. Special thanks goes to Bill Ristey and John Manza for organizing this
project.
Cookout Hosted for
Veterans - July 16, 2011
The council hosted a
cookout for veterans at the Coatesville VA facility on Saturday, July
16th. Over 100 guests were served. The weather was ideal for a cookout,
and guests noted how much they enjoyed the day. Pictured are the
volunteers along with the administrator of the facility.
Habitat for Humanity Project - June 25, 2011
Several council members worked on a
Habitat for Humanity project in Coatesville on Saturday, June 25th. Some
members worked on interior painting while others set up scaffolding
around the exterior of the unit. The future homeowner worked with the
council, and expressed her appreciation for the help.
Continued Support for Seminarian - June 1, 2011
The
council welcomed seminarian
Daniel Arechabala for a second year at its meeting on June 1. Daniel
detailed his progress at the seminary and answered questions from the
members.
A contribution of $500 was given to Daniel by the council to help with
his expenses. Pictured are Grand Knight Joe Monte and Daniel Arechabala.
