HISTORY
Scrambling
In February 2003, Monsignor Joseph Cunningham suggested that St. Isaac
Jogues Church consider hosting a golf outing. A hastily created Golf
Committee – composed of Carl Annas, Bob Clark, Tom Dalton, and Jerry
Donnelly – began planning the first golf outing. With much encouragement of
parishioners to play at the outing and some hurried solicitation of local
businesses to participate as hole sponsors, St. Isaac’s held the first golf
outing in May 2003, at the Jeffersonville Golf Club in Jeffersonville. We
attracted 65 golfers, secured 28 hole sponsors, and made almost $1,400
for St. Isaac Jogues Church.
Reconstruction is Good
In the fall of 2003, the Golf Committee reconvened to begin planning the
2004 golf outing and recognized an opportunity to create a first-class
event. Some major changes began to unfold.
- PURPOSE: Utilize the golf
outing proceeds to create a Capital Improvement Fund for St. Isaac
Jogues Church.
- PRIVATE GOLF COURSE: Host
the golf outing at a private golf club to attract players who may not
have the opportunity to play there.
- HELICOPTER DROP and SILENT
AUCTION: Add major fundraising events in which non-golfers could
participate and win fabulous prizes.
- BRANDING: Create an identity
for this annual event; thus the creation of the title Annual Golf
Classic and Fundraiser.
Let the Games Begin
The 2nd Annual Golf Classic and Fundraiser was
held at Bellewood Golf Club in North Coventry, Pennsylvania. The golf and
dinner activities were a sellout, and we had 40 hole sponsors. Most
importantly, over $13,500 was raised for the Capital Improvement
Fund. The silent auction was very successful, but the highlight of the day
was the helicopter drop. The Helicopter Drop winners were John and
Christine Puk, who purchased ball #191 on the Sunday before the 2nd
Annual Golf Classic and Fundraiser.
In 2005, the Golf Committee increased to six members – adding Jim Donegan
and Tom Pietrocini – and organized St. Isaac Jogues’ 3rd
Annual Golf Classic and Fundraiser at Bellewood Golf Club. The
silent auction and helicopter drop were held again as major fundraisers.
The event was extremely well attended, and almost $17,000 was raised
for the Capital Improvement Fund.
In 2006, the 4th Annual Golf Classic and Fundraiser
was once again held at Bellewood Golf Club and was a rousing success. Over
$16,300 was raised for the Capital Improvement Fund. The winner of
the $1,000 for the Helicopter Drop was Stephen Alleva.
In 2007, the Bellewood Golf Club was again the venue for the 5th
Annual Golf Classic and Fundraiser, and over $17,000 was
raised for the Capital Improvement Fund. The winner of the $1,000
for the Helicopter Drop was a "Friend of St. Isaac's" who donated the
winnings to the parish.
The 6th Annual Golf Classic and Fundraiser was held at the
Bellewood Golf Club in 2008, where a new record was set for the most money
raised in a single parish fundraiser. A total of $19,005 was
contributed to the Capital Improvement Fund. Debuting this year was the
Balloon Ride Raffle, which added another dimension of excitement
to the fundraiser.
