Council Hosts Guadalupe
Image - December 18, 2011
As
a participant in the Knights of Columbus Marian Prayer Project, the
council hosted a stop on the national tour of the image of Our Lady of
Guadalupe. The image had been blessed by Pope Benedict XVI and was
touched to the original image of Our Lady of Guadalupe which formed on
St. Juan Diego's tilma (cloak) after one of Our Lady's appearances to
him in Mexico. Council members and parishioners were invited to visit
St. Isaac Jogues Chapel and join in prayer there.
Stockings for
Soldiers Project Completed - November
17, 2011
The
council wrapped up its Stockings for Soldiers project, having
collected the equivalent of about 50 "stockings" worth of items for
troops overseas. The donations were taken to the project's central
processing facility in Delaware, where more than 10,000 stockings are
shipped out, each one tagged with the name of an individual soldier. The
council also gave a cash donation to the project to help with shipping
and other costs. Special thanks goes to Jack Marchiano and Bill Ristey
for heading up this effort.
Council Assists with Special Olympics - November
5, 2011
The
council assisted for the 6th consecutive year with the annual Special
Olympics held at Villanova University. Council members worked in two
shifts serving attendees breakfast and lunch at the south cafeteria. Special thanks goes to Bill Ristey and John Manza for organizing this
project.
Cookout Hosted for
Veterans - July 16, 2011
The council hosted a
cookout for veterans at the Coatesville VA facility on Saturday, July
16th. Over 100 guests were served. The weather was ideal for a cookout,
and guests noted how much they enjoyed the day. Pictured are the
volunteers along with the administrator of the facility.
Habitat for Humanity Project - June 25, 2011
Several council members worked on a
Habitat for Humanity project in Coatesville on Saturday, June 25th. Some
members worked on interior painting while others set up scaffolding
around the exterior of the unit. The future homeowner worked with the
council, and expressed her appreciation for the help.
Continued Support for Seminarian - June 1, 2011
The
council welcomed seminarian
Daniel Arechabala for a second year at its meeting on June 1. Daniel
detailed his progress at the seminary and answered questions from the
members.
A contribution of $500 was given to Daniel by the council to help with
his expenses. Pictured are Grand Knight Joe Monte and Daniel Arechabala.
Parish Coffee Hosted by Council - May 8, 2011
The council hosted a parish coffee
after the 10:30am Mass on Sunday, May 8, in honor of Mothers Day. A wide
variety of refreshments were provided to the numerous parishioners in
attendance.
Knight of the Year Award
- February 12, 2011
The
recipient of the 2010 Knight of the Year Award is Dr. Michael Harkness.
Grand Knight Joe Monte made the announcement at the council's annual
potluck dinner. Dr. Harkness was recognized for his involvement in many
of the council's service activities, as well as his leadership role in
several of the activities, including the recent Bowling Party and Free
Throw Championship. Dr. Harkness was also praised for his regular
participation and constructive input at council meetings.
Potluck Dinner Hosted by Council
- February 12, 2011
Members
of the council and their families enjoyed a potluck dinner in the Parish
Hall on Feb. 12 after the 5pm Mass. The dinner took on a bit of a
Valentine's Day theme owing to the proximity of that holiday. A wide
variety of appetizers, entrees, side dishes and desserts were enjoyed by
attendees. There were several activities for younger children to enjoy
also. Joining in the festivities was Fr. William Cleary, a regular
celebrant at the parish. Grand Knight
Joe Monte expressed his appreciation to the knights and their families
for making possible all the service projects that are taken on by the
council.
Bowling Party Hosted By
Council
- January 30, 2011
The council
hosted a Bowling Party for families of St. Isaac Jogues Parish at Devon
Lanes on Sunday afternoon, January 30, from 3:00 - 5:00 pm. Several
lanes were filled with adults and youth pitting their skills against the
pins. Pictured are some of the younger bowlers in attendance. The council
thanks Mike Harkness for organizing the
event.
Council Conducts Free Throw Championship
- January 9, 2011
The council's
2011 Free Throw Championship was held at St. Norbert's Gym on Sunday
afternoon, Jan. 9.
Four youths registered by the council captured the local titles in
their respective divisions. These winners advance to district level
competition, which is followed by regional, state and international
competitions. Nationwide, about 200,000 youths ages 10-14 participate in the
championship. The council recognizes Mike Harkness for coordinating the
event.
